新标准中的膨胀型钢结构防火涂料就是指超薄型、薄型防火涂料，它主要是以有机树脂为基料，加入发泡剂、阻燃剂、成炭剂等成分，遇火后自身会发泡膨胀，形成比原涂层厚度大数倍乃至数十倍的多孔碳质层，可阻挡外部热源对基材的传热，如同绝热屏障，从而起到保护钢结构基材的作用，耐火极限可达0.5～2.0h。
